I wanted to tie into the final project theme, so I scanned some of the photos and found some that represent the progression of time. Faded blue jeans and the "wrinkles" from the folds of the fabric suggest progression of time ...."wearing on all of us". My son actually took the photo of the glasses and clock which I love. Children do such a great job of not overthinking things and often get a much more interesting focus of an image. The glasses and section of the clock immediately made me think of time marching onward....glasses meaning aging to me and the clock's image of the mortality of us all. The image of the side mirror on our car as we drove through the rain is one of my favorites also because of the combination of the sleepy, dreamy state created by the rain, the message on the mirror of "things my be closer than they appear", and the image of the pavement markings projecting movement forward.

chandeliers

I just thought this image of a chandelier was cool and pretty. I always feel sorry for pets that are missing and wonder why they are lost but I also feel some hope that the animal will be found and returned. This photo brought on a whole different feel. It made me feel that the dog was somehow dead and the situation was hopeless just from seeing it in a different environment.....under water. It felt like the dog was forgotten....truly lost. Of course, as I looked throughout the neighborhood, I also saw the same flyer on posts, so it was just an extra that got away. I hope the dog was found. It's funny how the presentation of an object can affect its meaning and feeling.

What is it?

I have to say, one of the best things about the camera is the negative feature that it has; it makes everything so much more weird than it would normally be when seen in the regular view. While walking my dogs and the neighbor child that I watch, we started a game of I Spy. When it came to the girl's turn, she picked yellow. I guessed all the yellow objects that I could see and then gave up, asking her what the object was. She replied that it was the sun. I told her that I couldn't consider the sun because it wasn't something that I could look at without hurting me eyes. It was true that it was in my range of sight as we walked, but it wasn't something I considered to be an object in my field of vision. I never thought to look up....just wasn't within my idea of space to search. I realized that my viewpoint was quite limited and that, in the scheme of things, what we consider to be our focus can be quite limited in every sense. I decided to take a picture of the sun with the camera...to let it do what my eyes couldn't. The resulting images were quite beautiful and reminded me that humans are such a miniscule piece of existence in relationship to the infiniteness of what is beyond us.

Where are all the comments?

Just wondering why I'm not seeing any responses to photos. Some people love the idea behind the harnessing of naturally available resources and some claim that it produces headaches and illness. I decided to snap some photos on our trip to Hays as they have a large grouping of them outside of town a few miles. Although they are innocuous looking at a glance, the longer and closer you look at them, they take on a new look. As the weather changed from sunlight to heavy showers, they began to look more and more imposing, alien-like, and sinister. When they were partially covered by clouds, they reminded me of a cluster of crucifixes. They made me feel uncomfortable but I think they are a good thing. I just wouldn't want to live by them....kind of creepy!

Americana

My family and I went to Hays this weekend for family time at Easter and ended up following a CNN Express bus. I wanted to get a photo of the license plate and insignias around it but my timing wasn't the best. So, I ended up with this photo which still proved to be very interesting. It reminds me of a map of the midwest portion of the U.S. and the colors and lettering move the eyes around the image. As a mother, you have to understand that a call from the nurse's office alerts you immediately but, after you're old like me, age adds a buffer of calmness to the reaction which actually helps you be more effective when you arrive to deal with the adults and your child who only wants to be reassured that you are there and going to make sure they are taken care of.....in summation...they will not be dieing that day. I assure you, it is an honor to be in that type of position and elevates your worth for your 15 minutes of total fame to your loved one. This is a documentation of that first black eye for my son who, along with another vivacious boy, never saw the "train wreck" until it was too late on the Maize playground. I was a hero for a day.

window shadows

.
e
I don't know why but I always find shadows very interesting. I looked so pretty so I just had to take a picture of it and it turned out much better on camera. There were two different lights next to eachother so the first picture is from an off-white lamp. The second is from another orange one but not as intense as the third, and the third is from the same orange one just close up to show the intensity. I enjoy the way that these turned out very much.

I saw this house in a neighborhood behind the arts district and it made me think of beauty because it looks as if the house possibly thrived in it's hayday, but now it's falling apart. I guess I do because, to me, no one really processes the whole picture; we just pick an area of focus. So, for this blog, I have "focused" on some close ups of various things and the emotional impact that can have on the viewer....from my sock monkey slippers in the snow, to the view when watering a plant, to my dog's nose (this must be how they see most things), to my rear view mirror on a rainy day (the past or what's following you....depending on how you think). What do you think? That's it for me tonight as I am stressed out and "all done in".

Swirly Landscape

You'll have to excuse the blurryness (although I don't mind it so much - kinda gives it a cool texture and grunge feel). The color and texture are so interesting to me and I think they lend themselves to the creation/imagination of other objects or landscapes. The lasagna I had to add because it lends itself so well to the topic of layers. Although my husband makes a "mean" lasagna, it looks rather repugnant close up. I guess the perspective from which an object is viewed can certainly change the feeling about that object both in the identification of what the object is and how it makes you feel.

Trouble

I'm still having problems uploading my video and pics to the blog

underneath it all....

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 242px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_h7xt8xR2NY8/SZy48JXPJcI/AAAAAAAAAAs/0DtRj6guzXw/s320/Picture+001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304317804580644290" />
I find these photos facinating because from one angle you really don't know what on earth it is! is it a parasite? is it a creature of some sort? nope it is the human hand! this is a lateral view of the hand taken by xray and the other is just a close up of the flat lay of the hand. Eyes can tell, more than any other feature, the intent or emotion of a person or animal. I often find myself having difficulty looking at people eye to eye. It almost seems like an invasion.....very intimate. There is a communication that can occur in a very pure state when looking into the eyes of another being. I am fascinated with this type of encounter and have tried to capture the potential feelings that it can create with a few pictures.

Exit Sign

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303252512240905362" style="FLOAT: left; Shadows offer simplistic form and yet are not always static or obvious in nature, giving themselves up for interpretation as to the nature of the situation and/or the object itself. I frequently use silhouettes in my paintings because they play off of detailed images so well and offer repetition, depth, and a kind of mystery to the picture. It makes people take another look at the images and think a little more. I remembered us talking in class about making art/sculpture draw the viewer in to look and then look again..not just to glance at the surface or obvious features but to actually engage them in the activity of digging deeper and reflecting upon its meaning to them on a personal level. I think shadows lend themselves well to this type of exploration.

As I walked along that afternoon with my dogs, I started to notice the flow of the shadows alongside us and how the images changed according to the lighting and direction of our path. I particularly like the composition of this one because of the linear connection between the forms made by the leashes and the tilted perspective that the shadow gives. It very much feels "in motion" to me when I look at it.....kind of an energy too in the picture.

fire

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 241px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_h7xt8xR2NY8/SYYZslD9-qI/AAAAAAAAAAc/qdCv1JIogck/s320/Picture.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297950265301662370" />
Im no pyro mainiac or anything but, i do enjoy the way fire burns and the different shapes it makes, this one happen to catch my eye because it takes on the shape of a heart and you can see the intensity of the heat comming from the candle.

Patterns

As I was driving home a couple Saturdays ago, I noticed the pattern made of the shadows from a fence. I noticed light reflected off of windows onto the side of a building. The picture honestly doesn't do it justice because in person it looked so cool. The light made the building look like parts of it were glowing, and it was a warm glow (warmer than what you can see in the picture). One thing I didn't notice until I looked at the image on the computer was the reflection of the windows in the windows. They look all twisted and distorted which I found fascinating. I would classify this maybe in the 'oddity' category, because of the funky shape the light reflects in as well as the distorted window reflections.

Bubbles

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_h7xt8xR2NY8/SXy2aPJtt7I/AAAAAAAAAAU/wxecVE8dP94/s320/Picture.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5295307823740991410" />

I have always had a fish tank and never really paid any attention to the motion of the water or the air bubbles the filter creates until today, the motion of the water and how it reacts to some kind of force creates these tiny bubbles and how the shimmer in the water.

Light Patterns

I was just sitting at my friends house watching tv when I looked over and noticed the really unique patterns that this light left on the ceiling.
