Lava Lamp

I took this pic of my lava lamp only because I thought it looked cool in the dark with the different shades of red and pink. I took the pic right when the lamp was in the process of heating back up so you get that sense of movement within the pic.

Purdy Colors

I just really love this image, in the abstraction going on as well as the colors and the way the light reflects. Believe it or not it's a shopping bag! To me, kind of looks like it could be a painting. But I'm pretty much obsessed with the color blue so I'm just really drawn to this image.

Layers

I love looking past the surface of things and one of my dogs has the most wonderful skin and fur that I couldn't resist pushing around on it to get lots of furrows that I could take close-ups of. The color and texture are so interesting to me and I think they lend themselves to the creation/imagination of other objects or landscapes. The lasagna I had to add because it lends itself so well to the topic of layers. Although my husband makes a "mean" lasagna, it looks rather repugnant close up. I guess the perspective from which an object is viewed can certainly change the feeling about that object both in the identification of what the object is and how it makes you feel.

underneath it all....

I find these photos facinating because from one angle you really don't know what on earth it is! is it a parasite? is it a creature of some sort? nope it is the human hand! this is a lateral view of the hand taken by xray and the other is just a close up of the flat lay of the hand. The human structure is amazing in its own way and nobody has the same shape or structure, but the fact the the bones and joints are all ajoined the same is what makes these interesting.

Windows to the Soul

Have you heard about eyes being the "windows to the soul"? Eyes can tell, more than any other feature, the intent or emotion of a person or animal. I often find myself having difficulty looking at people eye to eye. It almost seems like an invasion.....very intimate. There is a communication that can occur in a very pure state when looking into the eyes of another being. I am fascinated with this type of encounter and have tried to capture the potential feelings that it can create with a few pictures.

Exit Sign

I know everyone has seen an exit sign before, but I thought the way the word looked as I moved was pretty cool.

Reflections

Was just looking around my room and thought the edge of a bunch of glass frames pushed all together looked kinda cool, as well as the reflection of them on the glass below.

Radio in the Night

I took this in my room when the lights were off...i thought it was interesting how everything looks blurred.  I didn't move the camera and it still turned out blurred.  It must have just had to with the distance I was away from the stereo.

Where am I?

This is a picture taken while i was driving home i was actually trying to capture the sunset but instead i captured the lights from the near by sonic, steet lights and cars infront of me. The angle that it was taken is very interesting to me beause it has a focal point and directs you to the right side of the picture and the blurry lights and it is impressive to me because you can't tell exactly what it is I took a picture of other than these magificent lights in motion.

Perspective

Shock, awe, beauty, or repulsion.........
How do you come to terms with what you see? Is it relative to the experiences you have had, indoctrination from others, or some standard that we all culturally share? Do we base our interpretations upon a superficial glance or do we look "beneath the surface", taking into account other aspects of the evolution and meaning behind our observations.

These images may be impossible to relate to for some while beautiful to others, markers of significance not obvious to all.

View of Nature from a Plane

I took this pic on my way back from Las Vegas. I thought it was a great way to capture the mountains and I like the shadow that's being cast over them by the clouds. It almost takes the shape of the plane itself though we are pretty far away. The mountians look beautiful from this angle.

Oddity/Interesting

I was hanging with some friends at their house and was taking some pics and my friend Christine was messing with some traffic cones that they have. Anyone with a camera could have gotten this picture but I think it is very interesting and just cool to look at. Usually when I come up to a traffic cone while driving I never see them illuminated this way, so I enjoy this one very much.

Let there be light....

The light on the wall made my think of they way light looks on the wall of a swimming pool. Isn't it interesting that glass and water share the similar characteristics that allow for this kind of result when light passes through both of them. I think it would be a wothwhile experiment to use in perhaps displaying an underwater painting. By shining light through textured glass, could you make the painting look almost "life-like"?

Fireworks? More like a lamp!

Here are my two images that I could not get to load last week. They are of my fiber-optic lamp. They remind me of fireworks and I think the way that the light in motion is captured is pretty darn fantastic!

More shadows and patterns

Not to seem redundant with all my shadows and pattern blogs, but I really liked the patterns in this one and how it all seems to bend around the corner. I like how there are strips on the actual blinds but then I also love the lines the blinds make on the wall. It seems to have pretty good eye movement. I feel like the way the lines are composed really lead you around. The lines on the blinds lead you down to the corner, then the lines on the wall direct you back up to the blinds.

This thing won't work!!!

I tried to upload my images, but the system isn't letting me at the time. I will try again first thing in the morning, but wanted to go ahead and post this just to let you all know that I really did try. I have two images of my fiber optic lamp and the patterns and movement the lights create.

fish tank

I think the way the reflection of the fish and the rock are reflected on the top of the water is really cool. The bubbles are the top of the water are pretty neat too.

Repetition/Pattern

The first picture was taken while I was working on some painting for class and was just looking around and noticed the blinds leaving their shadow across Casey's painting and liked the way it looked.
The second one was taken at a friend's house. I know it's nothing real special because it's a regular thing that everyone can notice easily if you have blinds but I enjoy the way the picture turned out, especially since the blinds look smaller as they progress into the lower right corner.

Dale Chihuly in Bellagio Hotel

I noticed this Dale Chihuly piece while I was at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. I think it represents beauty because you walk into this great room and when you look up at the ceiling there is a small portion lined with all of this colorful glass. It reminded me of a kid goin into a candy store with all of the flamboyant colors.

Shadows

My fascination with shadows shows in this photo that I took while walking my two dogs. Shadows offer simplistic form and yet are not always static or obvious in nature, giving themselves up for interpretation as to the nature of the situation and/or the object itself. I frequently use silhouettes in my paintings because they play off of detailed images so well and offer repetition, depth, and a kind of mystery to the picture. It makes people take another look at the images and think a little more. I remembered us talking in class about making art/sculpture draw the viewer in to look and then look again..not just to glance at the surface or obvious features but to actually engage them in the activity of digging deeper and reflecting upon its meaning to them on a personal level. I think shadows lend themselves well to this type of exploration.

As I walked along that afternoon with my dogs, I started to notice the flow of the shadows alongside us and how the images changed according to the lighting and direction of our path. I particularly like the composition of this one because of the linear connection between the forms made by the leashes and the tilted perspective that the shadow gives. It very much feels "in motion" to me when I look at it.....kind of an energy too in the picture.

fire

Im no pyro mainiac or anything but, i do enjoy the way fire burns and the different shapes it makes, this one happen to catch my eye because it takes on the shape of a heart and you can see the intensity of the heat comming from the candle.

Patterns

As I was driving home a couple Saturdays ago, I noticed the pattern made of the shadows from a fence. I just thought it looked so cool and loved the pattern it created. Just please excuse the dirty window haha.
